I got a Twitter account.

Technically I already had one, but, having long forgotten what it was, I made a new one. I’m Ira Tailor there (actually iratailor, but…). Officially already addicted to it.

…Scheissemanelli, that sounded like a tweet. Need help quick, save please! (/intentional self-mocking)

NaNoWriMo is yet to relaunch. I can’t wait much longer!

In other news, we may be starting a NaNo club at school. I came up with a slogan for us (”Write our way to 50K!”) and recruited a few members. If we get off the ground, we’ll have meetings to write and have each others’ support, and possibly a party/sleepover/some sort of event for the Night of Writing Dangerously on November 15! I’m very excited.

Also, last time I posted I mentioned having a mentorship with an author. Well, I talked to the TAG coordinator, and she said she would look into fiction writers in the area! Once I have a few names I can do some research and contact someone about it. That’s even more exciting!

As I Wait for Sleep

…I write a post on my blog. I’m sort of amazed I’ve posted every day for the past few days–isn’t everyone proud of me? x3 I kid, I kid. But seriously.

I’ve spent tongiht studying for a quiz in chemistry, on ionic compounds. Using flash cards, which made me feel like either a total dork or a fifth-grader, but it actually helps me, unlike a lot of study techniques. Even thought the learning style survey I took not long ago places me in the tactile category, I’m really in all three (tactile, visual, audial) and so something I can look at (including color-code for charges), physically write down and handle, and say aloud is really the best way for me to learn something difficult.

I want to do a mentorship with an author. My school allows mentorships to counut for credits if you log enough hours, and it would be beyond cool if I could work on Dusk with a real writer for help and guidance and get class credit for it. Maybe English credits! Who knows? :)

I can rarely get to sleep before eleven-thirty, usually not until nearly twelve. My brain just doesn’t want to shut down. However, tonight I’m having a hard time keeping my eyes open already, so this is a short post.

Wow. I just realized how stream-of-conscious that was. Weird. Guess that happens at quarter to midnight.

Crew day tomorrow. I’m going to be a leprechaun with one of my other friends. Fun.

DG out.

When I think…

…about Seuss(ical)! I’m extremely excited for the show. We got costumes today–and I don’t have to wear yellow! YES! -jump for joy- There was ONE green dress and it fits me perfectly. Unfortunately ther zipper needs fixed, but super exciting anywayyyys.

In other, non-Seussical news, school is going pretty well. Chamber was fun today, our conductor had a headache so she let us all go to the practice rooms and play whatever we liked. I worked vaguely on the themes for Clockwork Castle (I imagine I haven’t delivered rants on any of my stories since I moved to WP! I’ll have to give the summaries!) and then used my letter-pattern system to make some for Dusk. Very vaguely.

Speaking of orchestra, youth symphony is super fun as well. One of my two favorite songs, Song of the Prairie, is by the same composer as my favorite song in chamber at school, Halcyon. Both beautiful songs. :)

Homecoming this week. I didn’t do celebrity day. Nothing to wear. xP Ah, well. Tomorrow is decades day. Going to find a tie-dye t-shirt tonight for the sixties. Peace out.

Storm Warning

It was dark in the lobby—the only light was from outside, and the sky was dark with clouds.
We started pulling the decorations-in-progress out: the cardboard pillars and cutouts, and all the tape and sticky foam to patch it together. Everything slid easily across the polished tiles, but it was harder to maneuver the pieces around each other.
The wind was picking up, blowing eerily around the building with a loud rush-sh-sh, mixed into a forboding sort of sigh.
“Is that the wind?” I asked quietly.
“Uh-huh,” Rachel said.
“It’s creepy.”
She just nodded.
We started to work, silent except to ask for the tape or some help, please. Outside, it started to rain, water falling in veils, then sheets. Droplets streaked the huge windows like dreary shooting stars.
I kept looking outside. It was only minutes before the sidewalks became shallow streams, and every drop hit the surface with a splash and a ripple. The wind had died off, but the storm was far from over.
Out the window at the very edge, right against the north wall, there was a gap in the clouds, curving down to the trees. The sky beyond it was orange and yellow, but more like dye than fire, and there was a sliver of sun like a fat orange pumpkin right above the skyline.

That’s what it was like working on Homecoming decorations with student council tonight. Sooo creepy, but it was one of the most amazing things ever. And then we had a rehearsal:

Standing on the stage you could hear it—this whisper, almost like running water, but a little off. It was right overhead, up between the curtains and pipes and wires, coming from the darkness above all of it.
“Do you hear water running?” asked the little girl in front of me, her voice a whisper.
“It’s the rain on the roof,” I murmured, looking in that direction. I found out later it had been hail we’d heard.

I like storms. :) They’re very cool. What’s your favorite kind of weather?

Waiting for NaNo

As November crawls closer, I’m getting more and more impatient for it. I’m planning to write the newly renamed Evening Sky (formerly Fallen Evening formerly Queen of the Evening) for the third time this year–a plot I know well, with characters I adore, but a fresh start and a new drive. I’m even writing it in a setting from which it has never been written–yes, not one word of Dusk has been typed since I rearranged my room.

I’m anxious to start working on it again. The overall story arc has changed slightly–now rather than three books of Dusk, there are four: Evening Sky, Twilight Spell, Shattered Dusk, and Poison Nightfall. The first takes place mostly in one world, the second travels between the two, the third takes place in the other world, and the fourth is in neither, but a third world entirely.

Psyched up for NaNo. In case anyone wondered, there are 36 days left.

In the meantime I’ve been working on several of my other projects as well as some new ones. I wrote a bit of NorthStar today; a new beginning, in fact, for yet another story. I’ve also worked on Clockwork rather patchily, as well as a tentative start to the story of the Sorceress Lady Kaylin.

All in all though, I haven’t got much time to write. Even my weekends are totally booked now that I’m in our state youth orchestra, with a viola rehearsal on one day and one for Seussical the other. Ugh! Even so, both are definitely worth it. And they help keep my mind off how long it is before October is over!

On a vaguely related note, I think even though I still enjoy getting free candy by wearing some kind of silly costume, Halloween is most exciting to me now as the day before NaNo starts, rather than a candy conspiracy.

So, tell me–anyone else do NaNo? And what do you do while you wait for it?

By the way,the incredibly cool NaNo icons for this year are up on the site in the Breaking News archive!

Life in the Real World

…Oh, wait. I don’t have one. Maybe not, then.

That aside, I’ve been meaning to post and sort of…haven’t. Well, here you are. (Assuming anyone reads this website; I’m never sure of that…) A post within a month of the last? Inconceivable!

Though in my defense I haven’t had much time to do anything. High school is as much of a timesuck as always, what with homework and such. And that’s not to mention the nightly rehearsals for Seussical in October. As if that’s not enough, student council is busy with homecoming coming up next week.

Speaking of student council, I joined it this year, and there aren’t many decisions I’ve been so glad of in my life. I love it, and even though the work tonight was a little strenuous (the requirements for the signs I was helping to make kept changing, requiring them to be remade several times, and tempers were a little high) it’s been so much fun. It’s the first time I’ve been in the SC and I’m enjoying it. The higher level of resonsibilty required have forced me to be a little more organized. I need to reorder everything soon (at the very latest, after Seussical) but it’s better than usual.

Of course, my room is a disaster, but I’ll get that in shape yet. In fact, my desk is beginning to drive me crazy, so I suppose now is as good a time as any.Unthinkable, I know.

DragonGirl out.

Ugh.

So I realized I hadn’t updated here in FOREVER. I’ve been meaning to post some poetry and some pictures but haven’t gotten around to it yet. More than six months since last time I posted.

Anyways. Updates.

I now have a deviantART account, Queen-Marlynna-Saige ( http://queen-marlynna-saige.deviantart.com/ ) . Not much there yet but there’s some art and I’ll post most of my future artworks there. I thrive on comments, by the way, so if you do check it out…-hinthintwinkwink- :P

I honestly don’t know if I’ve posted this sometime before, but my FanFiction.Net account is Supreme.Empress.DragonGirl at http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1490074/ so check that out as well if you’re interested in Doctor Who, Zelda, Mario, Warriors, or Keroro Gunsou. :D

School started two days ago and is going pretty well. Orchestra is fun (for once! :P) and I’m in Student Council this year. I’m more excited than ever and I have the feeling I’ll be able to handle whatever the school year throws at me!

Of course, we’ll see how I’m feeling come January or so, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

And look–

MORE fanart. :P

I’m also working on the illustration for Chapter One. I’ll post the chapter and the illustration when I’m done.

Peach (Project: Gateway to the Stars)

I’m here again, with no other update than to give you some more art.

Princess by Day, Hero by Night

It’s having a hard time with the image size…sorry it’s so big. You can see it better, though, so no harm done there.

Mario: Gateway to the Stars (Trailer)

Something big…

The door towered up towards the high arched ceiling. It was made of polished mahogany, each strip of wood a foot across. Gold bands crossed it. The brightest, in the middle, was adorned with a row of jewels. Writing covered the surface, unreadable, twisting symbols. Set in the white marble arch, precisely above the door’s apex, was a scintillating star.

…is coming.

Indigo streaks blended with inky blackness. The rush of wind tugged at them, trying to pull them into empty space. The nothing was broken by bright trails of stars as they spiraled towards the center. Somewhere, out in that roaring darkness, there was a scream.

Everyone…

They looked at each other. A flash of yellow, like a burning flame, broken by a downwards slash of shadow. Blue like chips of ice, determined, cold. Blue like the sky, half-hidden behind white like clouds. Blue like the sea, sometimes serene, other times stormy. Now, those waters were a raging tempest, filled with the energy of the storm.

…must choose…

I can’t do this.”

You have to.”

I know. But I can’t. Not now.”

There’s no other choice!”

Actually…there is. One.”

…to join and fight…

Light flooded the chamber. Red flashes from one side, where two allies battled an onslaught of enemies. Orange, nearby, and yellow—fire. Green sparks flew as twenty tons of steel, circuitry, and pure power battled. Blue, violet, silver from another corner—the two of them fought like a single being. A rainbow of battle.

…or flee.

Run!”

But—you promised–”

I know I did.”

You lied to me!”

If we flee now…”

Then you break your promise and–”

…we live to fight another day, when the odds are slightly more in our favor. Go!”

But even together…

Three hands and a claw went to the middle at once. Two more hands rested on top a moment later. After a slight pause, three more joined them.

Come on.”

I’m not sure…”

We can’t do it alone.”

There was silence…and the last hand broke the circle and joined.

…they may not be enough…

There’s too many.”

You’re scared.”

I’m not.”

Chicken.”

He hesitated, looking at her. She had thrown out the taunt because she was determined to win this time. He wouldn’t like that at all.

There’s too many. Pull back.”

She opened her mouth to protest, but shut it again. She’d matured since this started. Enough to know that there were some battles she couldn’t win. Both literally and metaphorically, this was one of them.

…to face this threat.

It was a limp, cold, dimly lit thing to everyone else, but to her, it was a true friend. He was so broken, so fragile. He opened his eyes and coughed. “Princess?” he whispered.

Sh-sh-sh,” she said softly.

He closed his eyes and slackened again, but he was alive. She knew it. As long as that bright light inside him shone through, even the tiniest bit, he would be okay.

Oh,” she said softly. “What did this to you?”

Whatever it is,” said the voice behind her, “I’m not anxious to face it.”

She looked up. “I get the feeling we’ll have to.”

I know.”

If they’ll have any chance…

We’re losing.”

We’re not.”

We’re sure not winning.”

But we aren’t losing, either.”

Maybe, but we will be.”

Maybe not.”

What have we got over this?”

Just one thing.”

What?”

We have hope.”

..it’s going to take all they have.

I’m not sure we can do it.”

She jumped up, hot fire in her eyes. “So try!”

I am trying, but–”

If you have doubts, you aren’t trying hard enough!”

Well–”

What are you fighting for? Think of stars, ripped down from the sky! Think of people who look into the night and see nothing but black! Think of that poor, pathetic star the princess found! Think of towns, torn apart, people with their hands burned off, with half their skin gone but still alive because they have no way to die but from slowly bleeding out, or starving! Fight for that!”

He swallowed. “I know, but…”

If that’s not enough, fight for me! Fight so I never suffer that way! Fight so I live, even if you die! It doesn’t matter what—but find something that’s important enough to you to try!”

All their strength…

He flung himself into the door. “I can’t,” he gasped. “I don’t have enough energy.”

You have to be strong!”

I know, but I can’t. Not right now.”

Every single living, thinking thing in all the worlds, all the kingdoms, everywhere, is sending their strength to us. Reach out and take it! Add it to your own! Break down all the barriers!”

…all their cunning…

You’re the one who has to do this.”

Why me?”

Because you have to. Don’t you want to?”

You need it to be me? You need it that badly?”

Yes! You’re the most cleverest of all of us. Go in there and use it!”

I’m actually vital enough to this that you’ll rest all your hopes on…me?”

Yes! How many more times do I have to say it?”

He looked up, grinning. “I suppose there’s no harm in using my superior intellect for something useful.”

..all their caring…

She couldn’t move any further. She was caught by the older girl’s strong arms. “I know you don’t want to go on,” she whispered. “I know it’s hard, and I’m sorry. If you want to go, I’ll understand. We all will. If you can’t do this, it’s fine. I just didn’t want you to leave without saying goodbye. I’ll miss you a lot.”

There was a pause. At last, the younger nodded. “I’ll stay.”

“You don’t have to do that.”

“I do, though. I care at least that much.”

She hesitated, and then nodded in reply. “Thank you.”

…and all their determination…

This is the last chance to leave.”

Everyone looked at each other. He was right. Once they went into this, there would be no changing their minds.

I’m ready.” The very youngest of the group stepped forwards. She had come through so much, too much to turn back now.

As am I.”

And I.”

Every single one of them stepped towards the path. He began to step onto it, then stopped. “Are you all sure?”

Everyone nodded.

You know that not all of us are definitely coming out of this alive. We’ll be lucky if we all do. Very lucky.”

This is it,” said the youngest, and she spoke for them all. “We’re coming with you.”

…to save the day this time.
